Practical Theology (The Calling of the Church)
What does it mean to be a church in the postmodern society of the 21st century? How can we serve God in our cities and towns when church growth is stagnating and our culture is increasingly resistant to Christian influence?
Would you like to explore the various types of churches and Christian communities and their roles in society? Do you want to gain a critical understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the church today? If so, this course is for you. By the end, you will understand different theological perspectives on what it means to be a church and see how these perspectives are applied in practice.
What you will learn
This course introduces theological perspectives on the church’s calling and examines how these perspectives shape church life in practice. It explores how churches and Christian communities strive to serve God and build the Kingdom both within and beyond their walls. Evaluating these developments from a Reformed perspective, the course includes excursions that will expose you to both traditional and contemporary expressions of ‘being’ a church.
