Viaa once again named the best medium-sized university of applied sciences in the Netherlands

For the fourth consecutive year, Viaa has been ranked the best medium-sized university of applied sciences in the Netherlands, according to the Keuzegids 2026. Students particularly value the supportive atmosphere at Viaa and the strong preparation for their future careers.

All study programmes scored well in the rankings. Primary Education (Pabo), Social Work, and Nursing received the distinction of “Top Programme.” Theology and the Associate Degree Didactic Educational Professional (Ad Dep) also performed above average.

The “Top Programme” label highlights the high quality of education at Viaa. Both Pabo (76 points) and Nursing (81 points) scored above the national average once again. Social Work stood out with an impressive 80 points—making it the highest-rated programme in the entire country. Theology (71 points) and the Ad Dep (72 points) also demonstrated strong results.

Dirk Wakker and Gerdien Groen, members of the Executive Board of Viaa, are proud of the recognition. Gerdien Groen commented: “Being ranked the best medium-sized university of applied sciences four years in a row is something we are truly proud of. It shows how much our students appreciate us, and it reflects the dedication of our colleagues who make the difference every day. At the same time, it confirms the quality we achieve together and motivates us to keep improving our education and student support.”

The Keuzegids praised Viaa’s consistency, noting: “For at least three years in a row, Viaa has scored best with its Nursing, Pabo, and Social Work programmes. Students are especially satisfied with the atmosphere and the career preparation they receive.”

On October 2, Viaa celebrated the number-one ranking together with students and staff—marked, of course, with cake.
